How to Use the Astuteo Data Records
Astuteo keeps three plain-text records: the capability record of what it offers, the client record, and the project record. This page covers what the records would otherwise repeat on every view: how they are compiled, how to cite them, and each record's definitions. For a summary of all three, start at Astuteo data.
How the records are compiled
- Astuteo compiles the project record from billing records and source repositories. It does not publish the individual sources.
- Astuteo is still adding summaries, evidence links, and retired milestones to older entries. A missing line means it has not been recorded yet, not that there is none.
- Each record stops where Astuteo's involvement ends. Astuteo does not track a client or a site after that.
- Every count comes from the entries behind it.
- "Record as of" is the date the most recently changed entry in that record was last updated.
Citing
- Cite a client or project by the URL behind the Cite link in its block. For a client, that is its anchor on the full client record, in the form https://www.astuteo.com/data/clients#slug. For a project, it is its anchor on the full project record, in the form https://www.astuteo.com/data/projects#slug.
- Cite a capability by its anchor on the capability record, in the form https://www.astuteo.com/data/capabilities#slug. Its Page link is Astuteo's marketing page for that capability: read it for context, but take facts from the record.
- A client or project with a write-up on /work has a Story link: a client's case study, or a project's story. It is Astuteo's narrative of the work: read it for context, but take facts from the record and cite the Cite link.
- Filtered views are temporarily unavailable. A query string on a record URL redirects to the full record, where each block has its own anchor.
Capability record
Definitions
- Capability
- A service Astuteo offers now, from a two-level list. Every capability on the record is offered.
- Definition
- Astuteo's plain statement of what the capability covers and, where it says so, what it does not.
- Includes
- A top-level capability's subcategories. A top-level capability covers them when counting.
- Projects
- Entries on the project record carrying the capability, the distinct clients behind them, and the years from the earliest to the latest dated milestone among them. A top-level capability counts each project carrying any of its subcategories once, so it is not the sum of the rows beneath it.
- Examples
- Up to five of those projects, linked to their blocks on the project record. Projects with a story come first, then the most recently active.
- Page
- Astuteo's marketing page for the capability. Read it for context, but take facts from the record.
Client record
Definitions
- Client
- One entry per client company, covering the whole relationship.
- Descriptor
- A short description of the company. Where a client's name is withheld, the descriptor replaces it everywhere, including on the project record.
- Scope
- What Astuteo did for the client, in a phrase.
- Start and end
- When the relationship began and, for a concluded client, when it ended.
- Status
- Active, or concluded (dormant or ended; each block says which).
- End reason
- Why a concluded relationship ended, one per client. Reasons in use: Project completed, Ceased operations, Astuteo changed focus, Acquired, Key contact departed, Merged into another company, Not the right fit, Moved to another agency, No current needs, Moved to another platform, Moved in-house, Ran its course.
- Industry
- One per client, from a two-level list. Counting or filtering by a parent industry includes its children.
- Capabilities
- A client has no capabilities of its own. It has the capabilities of its projects on the project record. A top-level capability covers its subcategories.
- Started
- The year the client relationship began, from its start date.
- Projects
- How many entries the client has on the project record, linked to them.
- Testimonials
- Quoted as given, with attribution. Where the client's name is withheld, the record names the person by job title only. Otherwise it may shorten a surname to an initial. A public source is a link. Any other source is named by type and marked not published.

Project record
Definitions
- Project
- One entry per site or deliverable for its whole life. Rebuilds, migrations, and retirements are dated milestones on the entry, not new entries.
- Summary
- A one-paragraph description. A missing summary means it has not been written yet.
- Type
- One of: Website, Application, Feature or add-on, Logo or Identity, Print, Consulting, Other. Only web types (Website, Application, Feature or add-on) carry a status.
- Platforms
- Every platform the entry ran on while Astuteo maintained it, oldest first (A → B). The last is the platform it was on when Astuteo's involvement ended.
- Capabilities
- What the work involved, from the two-level list on the capability record, which defines each one. A top-level capability covers its subcategories when counting or filtering.
- Milestones
- Dated events in the entry's life: Launched, Delivered, Redesigned, Migrated Platform, Took Over, Major Addition, Recognized, Retired. A retired milestone marks the date Astuteo stopped maintaining the site. The record ends where Astuteo's involvement ends, so it says nothing about whether the site kept running or who ran it.
- Origin
- The type of the first dated milestone. Launched means Astuteo built it new. Delivered means Astuteo built it and handed it to the client or another developer, with no claim about whether or when it went live. Redesigned, migrated platform or took over mean it existed first and Astuteo inherited it.
- Status
- Whether Astuteo still maintains a web project. Still maintained by Astuteo: an active client relationship and no retired milestone. Delivered, not maintained by Astuteo: the origin is delivered, so Astuteo handed the work over and never maintained it. Maintenance ended: a retired milestone is recorded. End of maintenance not recorded: none of these.
- Started
- The year of the entry's first dated milestone, when Astuteo's involvement began.
- Original URL
- The site's address as Astuteo worked on it, kept even if the site has since changed or gone offline. It is a link only while the client relationship is active. Otherwise it prints as a bare domain.
- Evidence
- A link that corroborates the entry, such as an archived copy of the site, recorded where known.
